The Power of Music
1 Samuel 16:23. When David played music, it soothed king Saul. He was "refreshed ... and the evil spirit departed from him." Music is powerful. It can affect you like nothing else. When you're feeling down , music lifts you up. When you're lonely , it can comfort you. when you're happy and excited, it can express everything you're feeling inside.
But music goes a step further than just spine tingling emotions. It affects your spirit. That's why it's important to guard your ears. Left unguarded, a lot of negativity, anger, and other ungodly emotions can impact your spirit and weight it down. Whether or not you realize or are willing to admit it, the words and rhythms of songs influence you.
The next time you're itching for a tune, invite God into the mix by listening to music that lifts your spirit, helps keep your thoughts centered on God, sets your heart in the right place, and aligns your heart with His. That is music that truly glorifies God.
